Robert Dotson of Tennessee relates a memorable time at Virginia International Raceway.

I am really inexperienced as a track/race driver! In fact, my trip too VIR
was the first time I had ever had the opportunity to drive in such a venue.
My Instructor (a young man in his mid-30s was a professional instructor and
race driver - Porsches and BMWs) had never seen a Khamsin and he was quite
taken with the car's performance. As you know, it's very very quick re:
steering and braking. He (and, then, I)really pushed the car through the
course and it didn't hesitate, fade, or fail in any way to keep up with all
of the Ferraris about that day. It is a fairly easy car to heel/toe, but
takes some adjustment as it is so quick. It is a HEAVY car - hence, the
"understeering" comments, I believe - but seems to be easily adjusted for in
driving. I have never experienced ANY brake fade in driving this car. It
stops as well after multiple trips around the VIR as it does before. I drove
it from home about 400 miles to the track (averaged about 90-95 mph as I was
trying to keep up with my friend's Modena) - straight onto the track - and
back home two days later without any hitch or hiccup!

Marc,
I was directed to your website from a posting by Keith Bluemel on the Ferrari Telaio List.
I am a long time Khamsin owner #1226. The Khamsin is the feature model in the new issue of VCM. The story of my car is titled "The Khamsin from Hell".
I am really happy to that you have taken the initiative to do put it together. I started a database a number of years ago (you are welcome to it) but that lasted about a week. It is about time that Maserati owners come together. There is a Bora registry but there really isn't anything like say the Lamborghini Registry for Maserati Owners. The MCI website comes the closest.
I'll be more than happy to help you out in any way I can, and forward you whatever information you need.
I am one of the organizers of Le Belle Macchine d'Italia. www.italiancarsatpocono.com We host the MCI -Maserati Owners National Meet. We plan on making the Khamsin the feature model in the near future. (Probably when mine comes out of restoration, that should be any year now.) When we do we will try to arrange for Gandini to attend they event.
Please let me know if you have any questions. I can be reached at 717-312-0859

I got his message from Keith Bluemel: Marc Sonnery in Florida has started a Maserati Khamsin registry, and welcomes any information on this model to add to the site database. Apparently 421 examples were produced and around 300 are believed to survive. I own 120-150, delivered new in Germany, 5-speed, black/red. I bought it in 1991. Regards Dr. Wolf Zweifler Germany
